Write-in candidates for county central committee – Filing deadline January 4th

Ohio FlagIf you missed the December 16th deadline to file to run for county central committee in the 2016 Ohio primary, there still may be a way to get yourself (or others you are recruiting) elected to central committee.

In many precincts, as usual, NO candidate will have filed to run for 2016. These precincts can be won by people who file as write-in candidates.

Follow these steps to learn more:

  1. Call your local BOE (directory) and ask whether there is central committee election in your area during the 2016 primary.
  2. If there is an election, ask whether anyone filed to run in your precinct.
  3. If no one filed, ask how to file as a write-in candidate.
  4. File as a write-in.
  5. Vote for yourself on Election Day.
  6. Win.

When you vote, make sure that you write your name the same way on both the petition to file and your primary ballot. Invite a few friends to vote for you as well, just to be safe.

To be a valid write-in candidate, you must file a “Form No. 13” with your BOE. This form must be filed by 4 p.m. January 4th. (For more information see the 2016 Ohio Elections Calendar.)

As always, ask your local BOE to clarify and answer any questions you may have about running for county central committee.
